Goose Egg Addling

To control the population of Olympia geese and other birds this method is used. It is done by terminating the embryo development from the fertilized egg. Fertilized egg is taken out from the nest and if there is embryo development then it is terminated, after that egg is placed again at the same place in the nest. Goose egg addling must be done with great care. So that the goose believes that the egg is in developing stage and it will not lay more eggs. This method is not very cost effective. Other method used to control population of Washington goose is to increase the hunting season. Hunting also seems to be inhuman so this method is best.

It is a humane way to keep eggs from hatching. So the population of Olympia geese can be stabilized, as the people of community do not like more geese around in the environment. So the community needs to remove the fertilized eggs from nest and after terminating the embryo development place it back to mislead the mother geese.

To have a proper addling the members doing this should be properly trained. At first step you have to find out the nests of geese. In some areas people have seen Washington goose but nest is not found so it is very first step to find out nest where the eggs have been laid down. Then the person doing addling should be well trained that he does this with a lot of care. He safely picks up the eggs without the knowledge of mother goose. Then secondly he should know that how to terminate the embryo development. Then he must be very conscious while putting the eggs back in nest. The Olympia goose should not have any knowledge that its eggs have been treated. Because if she comes to know this, it will lay more eggs and increase its population. This is not good for the community.

In Olympia addling is the most effective process to control population of geese. This is usually done in April, because in this season most of the geese get their eggs fertilized and it is necessary to terminate the development of embryo, to control the population.

It is also essential to revisit the treated nest because the Washington geese might have laid new eggs which also need treatment. The easy way is to mark the treated egg, but hear is also a chance that by putting a mark the geese might come to know that egg has gone through any activity and it might change nest. Then the new task is to find the new nest to stop growth of geese flock. Despite all the addling method is humane and effective.
